An absconded sex offender from Jones County, Michael Joe Whitaker, was captured in Hattiesburg by the Hattiesburg Police Department and transferred to the custody of the Jones County Sheriff's Department on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. Whitaker faces a Failure To Register As A Sex Offender charge and has an MDOC hold placed upon him by Jackson County authorities.
