JCSD Remembers Deputy Randy Chancellor during National Police Week 2025

End of Watch: Wednesday, February 28, 2001

Jones County Sheriff's Department Deputy Glenn Randall "Randy" Chancellor, age 48, was killed in the line of duty when his patrol car was struck head-on by a drunk driver. While Deputy Chancellor (Jones 10) was responding to a call, another vehicle was traveling towards his patrol car from the opposite direction at a high rate of speed. As he attempted to move out of the vehicle's path, Deputy Chancellor's vehicle was struck. The driver of the vehicle that struck Deputy Chancellor had a .27 BAC. He was convicted of charges related to the accident and sentenced to 15 months in prison, 15 months of house arrest, and five years probation. Deputy Chancellor was survived by his wife and two daughters. A hero remembered, taken away from his family, friends, and co-workers. Deputy Chancellor's service to the residents of Jones County is forever remembered and appreciated.

A National Peace Officer Memorial Service is being held this Thursday, May 15th, at 10:00am at the Jones County Emergency Operations Center located at 22 Mason Street in Laurel. Everyone is invited to attend this somber memorial service.
