MHP PURSUIT TURNS INTO NARCOTICS DIVISION ARREST
In the late morning of July 11, 2019, Mississippi Highway Patrol attempted to make a traffic stop when the driver, identified as Xavier Evans, 25 of Ellisville, would not yield to law enforcement. A pursuit ensued, south of Ellisville on Highway 11, headed north, then made his way through the town of Ellisville. Ellisville Police Department and Jones County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the pursuit, which ended at a residence just off Hill Street.
Evans bailed out of the vehicle at a residence, leaving an adult female in the car. Evans raced inside the residence carrying a backpack, with law enforcement close behind. It was determined Evans knew the owner of the residence. Evans came out of the home in a few minutes. Jones County Narcotics Officers received permission from the homeowner to search the property and shortly after found a backpack wrapped up in a shirt inside a deep freezer, just inside the home. Inside the backpack were several individual bags of high-grade marijuana and one larger container of the substance. A gun was also discovered in the backpack.
The Jones County Sheriff’s Narcotics Division adopted the case from the Mississippi Highway Patrol, took Evans into custody and charged him with Felony Fleeing in a Motor Vehicle, Possession with Intent While in Possession of a Firearm and Weapon Possession of a Convicted Felon.
