While investigating a burglary on April 8, 2019, Jones County Sheriff’s Investigators went to a residence on Poole Creek Road to talk to persons of interest in the local case. Upon arrival investigators made contact with a female who opened the door then immediately locked it saying she’d come back out.  She said the male subject, Zachary Reed, 36 of Laurel, was not there.  When the female did not come back out, investigators again began to knock on the door when a male voice said, “Get off the porch”. He continued with threats, including, “I’m about to shoot through the door,” and began counting down.  Due to the possibility of weapons being in the residence, investigators backed off from the porch and began talking to the residents again.

The situation calmed down, Reed walked outside and the female signed consent to search the residence.  Nothing from the local burglaries was found in the home, but a weapon was found. Reed has an extensive arrest record.

When the female became aware that Reed would be taken into custody for the threats against law enforcement, she yelled at him, “Run, they are going to take you to jail!” Reed tried to flee on foot from the property, but was quickly taken into custody.

Reed was charged with Weapons Possession by a Felon and Simple Assault on a Police Officer.  His initial appearance is scheduled for April 10, 2019 at 1:00pm.
