In two consecutive months, reports from Child Protective Services were sent to the Jones County Sheriff’s Office regarding possible child abuse.
In December 2019 a report implicated Demeatrius Moody, 26 of Ellisville, of child abuse. In January 2019 another report implicated Damarius Cooley, 26 of Laurel of child abuse. Moody and Cooley are the parents of the victim. A forensic interview with the child detailed incidents of being hit by Cooley’s fist and other objects all over the victim’s body, and Moody beating the child then burning the victim with an iron. The victim is under the age of 10 and was no longer in the custody of Moody or Cooley when the initial reports were made.
Moody and Cooley were taken into custody and both charged with Felonious Child Abuse. They will make their initial appearances in Jones County Justice Court on February 27, 2019 at 1pm.
