On August 13, 2018, Jones County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to an address on Old Palestine Church Road in Jones County in reference to a shooting into a restaurant. The complainant stated he had previously had issues with Ray Chapman, 55 of Summerland, but on this date, Chapman shot an unknown caliber rifle through the front window of the restaurant. There was an employee in the restaurant at the time, prior to being open to the public.
Video surveillance from the restaurant showed Chapman with what appeared to be an AR style rifle walking by just prior to the Jones County Sheriff’s Department being contacted. Chapman was not on the scene. An arrest warrant was issued for Chapman for Weapons Possession by a Felon and Shooting Into a Building.
On September 4, 2018, a complainant made a report at the Jones County Sheriff’s Office against Chapman, stating he had assaulted the complainant at a cookout by hitting him in the right eye with an unknown object causing a fracture of the orbital wall. An arrest warrant was issued for Chapman for Aggravated Assault.
Chapman was taken into custody on September 17, 2018. He appeared at Justice Court and his bond was set at $15,000 total.
