I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for Spring! We have enjoyed a relatively mild winter with plenty of rain. Things are hopping as it relates to law enforcement in Jones County. We here at the Jones County Sheriff’s Department have been extremely busy working burglaries. The difference we are seeing now is the people who are involved in such crimes. Many we are arresting have little or no prior criminal record. We will continue working to educate the public regarding the challenges we face keeping you protected, and ways in which you can help to prevent becoming a victim. This team of dedicated men and women are committed to providing you with the highest level of protection and service possible.
Drugs continue to plaque our county. We have made great strides in this area; however the work is not done. We are now seeing a rise in heroin use. As you probably have heard or read in the news, we have recently started a gang task force. Yes, GANGS! Sadly our society continues in a downward spiral, but we refuse to give up the fight. We are spreading the word on ways you can identify gang activity in your neighborhoods.
Scams are also on the rise. Please note that if you didn’t apply for something, there’s a good chance you didn’t win. If you need any type work done around the house, please consult with someone before letting anyone do the work. If the company does not have references, I would suggest not using them. Never, never, give your personal information to anyone over the telephone, unless you know for sure who you are speaking with!
In closing, please continue to pray for Lieutenant Tony Stiles and his wife Tina! They have a very long road ahead of them. Tony’s stomach wound remains open and they are not sure what the next step will be. He has some use of his arm; however more surgeries are in the future. Tina is not able to work, due to round the clock care needed for Tony. On behalf of the entire family, thank you so much for your continued prayers and financial support!
God Bless,
Sheriff
