Jones County spans 701 square miles with over 1,000 miles of rural roadways and a population of just over 68,000 people. The Sheriff of Jones County is responsible for law enforcement response in Jones County and also operates the Jones County Adult Detention Facility and Jones County Juvenile Detention Facility.

The Jones County Sheriff's Department employs sworn law enforcement officers serving as patrol deputies, investigators and narcotics agents along with corrections officers, civilian administrative staff and reserve deputies. The department began in 1871 under the leadership of Sheriff Samuel Trest who was also the county's first Tax Collector. The current Sheriff, Joe Berlin, was elected in 2019 and took office on January 6, 2020. The Jones County Sheriff’s Department operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide professional, courteous and efficient law enforcement services to the citizens of and visitors to Jones County, Mississippi. Our motto is "The Jones County Sheriff's Department – Focused On Our Future" and it is our team approach to providing law enforcement services which is vital to the great success we have and continue to achieve.

Our desire is to make Jones County safe for those who call this wonderful county "home" and for those who visit while away from their own home. To that end, the men and women of the Jones County Sheriff's Department have dedicated their lives to ensure that the rule of law is respected and those who violate the law are swiftly brought to justice.
